Rio de Janeiro: the capital of the 2016 Olympics becomes the capital of SAMBO

In this report you’ll learn about why SAMBO – is an interesting brand for the Brazilians, representatives of what sports have become participants in the SAMBO seminars in this country, and why SAMBO will enter into the curriculum of the University Gama Filho in Rio de Janeiro.

At the end of May in Brazil the first-ever international SAMBO seminar was held. The International SAMBO Federation, University Gama Filho (UGF) and the Brazilian SAMBO Confederation took the lead in the event, so important for the world SAMBO. The Brazilians – are fans of martial arts. People from all over the world know about the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judaists in this country are permanent “residents” of the top rankings of the International Judo Federation, and only a lazy person wouldn’t have heard of MMA fighters from that country.

Because of such strong Brazilians’ wrestling traditions, there were lots of those who wanted to learn more about the sport at the SAMBO seminar for all 6 days. The main audience – are students of the Faculty of Physical Education at the University Gama Filho, and among them – are representatives of different combat sports: Judo, SAMBO, Capoeira, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, MMA and Muay Thai.

Tigran Karganyan FIAS Development Department coach carried out seminars for the Brazilian SAMBO fans. Tigran – is an outstanding and creative person, and his seminars – are always a kind of show called “SAMBO”. In this show, there is always room for presentation of SAMBO history, the story about the rules and the basic principles of judging and principles training session’s organisations. But the lion’s share of Karganyan’s seminars – is expert presentation of the practical material, from spotting and the base of technical actions to the so-called “mulek” and nuances of SAMBO technique, knowledge of which shapes the real coach.

Tigran Karganyan taught SAMBO theory and practice at seminars, but he managed to discuss official matters during the numerous working meetings. Of course, the main theme of these events – is the SAMBO development and advancement in Brazil. The meetings were numerous, Tigran, in particular, was able to talk with Gabriel Consesao de Souza – the senior teacher of physical education at the University Gama Filho, Arthur Mariano – the President of the Brazilian Confederation of Muay Thai, Kevin Lloyd – Secretary General of the World Federation of Muay Thai, Luiz Paulo – the representative of the DSW FIGHTWEAR company on the production of equipment for combat sports.

“We are very interested in introducing such discipline as SAMBO in our curriculum. Despite the fact that to date, the program has already been presented by judo, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, we will certainly carry the introduction of SAMBO in the program. This is – a wonderful sports”, –shares his impression of SAMBO seminars Gabriel Consesao de Souza.

The President of the Brazilian Confederation of Muay Thai Artur Mariano said that: “SAMBO – is a very interesting brand. Even in respect that in Brazil a large number of different combat sports and athletes are presented, I am sure that SAMBO has a great future in our country. SAMBO has a unique opportunity to give practical and comprehensive preparation to a man”.

Summing up the results of the previous seminars and meetings held by Tigran Karganyan in Rio de Janeiro, we are very optimistic about the great future of SAMBO in Brazil, and would like to wish good luck to the Brazilian SAMBO athletes of the Pan-American Championship, which will be held in Panama as early as next weekend.
