World SAMBO Championships in Riga: day two

The second competition day at the World Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships featured heavyweights competitions all age groups. Over 100kg (men) and over 80kg (women) in Juniors; over 100kg (boys) and over 75kg (girls). In any martial art, and SAMBO is no exception here, heavyweight wrestling is always interesting and popular with the audience. Other weigth classes to compete for Riga medals today were boys in 52, 65 and 81кг, girls in 44, 56 and 70kg, as well as Junior men in 52, 68 and 90kg and Junior women in 48, 60 and 72kg. The clear discovery of the competition is the Serbian national team. On the second competition day the female half of this sambo squad won gold and silver. The Championships became golden for Zabic Milica, who competed in heavyweight class in girls age group; while Jandric Ivana (70kg, girls) will bring home a silver medal. One medal each was won by representatives of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Ukraine. Athletes from Georgia, who shined a year ago at the previous edition of the Championships in Tbilisi, won two gold medals today. Nozadze Giogriy (90kg, Junior men) and Rezesidze Slavik (Junior heavyweight) pleased the Georgian SAMBO fans. At World Senior Championships female half of the Belorussian squad is always among the leaders. The next generation of Belorussian women wrestlers is not far behind: Karayeva Anfisa (44kg, girls) and Marozava Anzhela (72kg, Junior women) stepped on the top of the podium today. On Saturday Russian wrestlers added eight gold medals to their Riga coffers. Tomorrow is the last day of the Championships, which will feature competition in nine more weight classes.
