In Yerevan a barrel of cognac was laid, which will be opened when SAMBO enters the Olympic program

Today, August 4, President of the International SAMBO Federation Vasily Shestakov and President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan took part in the ceremony of laying a barrel of cognac in honor of the international SAMBO tournament in Yerevan. This barrel will become a kind of time capsule, since it is supposed to be opened in honor of an important event for all sambists – the inclusion of SAMBO in the program of the Olympic Games.

“Today we are participating in an unique event that will surely go down in history. Of course, cognac connoisseurs prefer aged drinks, but sambists all over the world will certainly agree if this cognac does not spend much time in the cellar. And we will fulfill the dream of our athletes and coaches – SAMBO will become part of the Olympic program,” Vasily Shestakov said.

He also noted the high level of organization and holding of the debut Cup of the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan, held in Yerevan on July 4. Representatives of national and continental federations from different countries that take part in this tournament attended the solemn ceremony of laying the cognac barrel.

Competitions are held in 7 weight categories in Sport SAMBO among men and in 2 weight categories in Sport SAMBO among women. Athletes from 21 countries of the world take part in the tournament.

The winners of the Cup of the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan will compete for a cash prize fund with the total amount of 200,000 USD.
