The All-Russian Sambo Federation was founded on the 14th of July in 1990 for the development, propaganda and popularization of Sambo in the Russian Federation, consolidation and rise of Sambo position on the international arena.  It is a member of the European Sambo Federation (ESF) and International Sambo Federation (FIAS). The federation is also a member of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Russian Union of Martial Arts (RUMA) and Multisport Association of Russia (AMSR). The federation is accredited (№ 0790001411Я) by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation.  

Sergey Eliseev is elected as a President of the All-Russian Sambo Federation, honored coach of Russia, PhD in pedagogics, and professor of wrestling department at the Russian State Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism University, honored worker of physical education of the Russian Federation. 

In 2003 according to the decision of the Russia’s State Sports Committee Sambo is officially recognized as a national priority sport in the country. At present Sambo is among the most popular types of sports. Thanks to its accessibility and its role in the society’s live Sambo has been developed in the 72 federal subjects of the Russian Federation. 

Sportsmen 
The Russian national sambo team perfectly performs on the international level, steadily gaining victories in team placing. The Russians regularly become the champions and prize-winners of the World and European Sambo Championships among adults, youth and juniors. 

They are the strongest athletes in many weight categories on the international sports arena.

The winners of the First World Martial Arts Games Marianna Aliyeva, Ekaterina Onoprienko, and Bair Omoktuev (Combat Sambo). The winners of the Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan are Elena Bondareva, Marina Mokhnatkina, Ali Kurzhev and Evgeniy Isaev.

Olympic prospects 
One of the greatest achievements of the past decades has been the formation of a cohesive community of Sambo. Thousands of people, practising sambo, joined its values, principles and ideals in Russia and worldwide being inspired by Sambo. 

Sambo is included in the official program of SportAccord World Combat Games and the Summer Universiade in 2013, along with Olympic sports. In 2014 Sambo joined the Asian Olympic Games. 

The number of amateur and professional athletes grows every year. The main objective on a global scale is to join the Olympic family. Sambo community in Russia accomplishes difficult and laborious work on Sambo recognition as an Olympic sport.
